Huawei Mate 20 Pro

Last year's phone is still ahead of the curve on battery and charging, and the camera is fun.

Fastest to unlock and quickest at app loading and social media, but lags in gaming and downloads.

Unbeaten zoom and a strong night mode, but over-exposes and over-saturates, and its video quality is held back by 4K30 and less polished stabilisation when moving.

An absolute battery monster that took second place with 6 hours 47 minutes, behind only the S10+.

Used as a reference for curves and ultra wide camera, which he has really grown to love.

Arun references its in-screen fingerprint scanner and 3D face scanning, but is not fully sold on its curved screen, which is not entirely responsive at the edges.

Used as evidence that Huawei withholds scores, and praised for its light painting mode.

Very fast with 40W SuperCharge and came second, but it slows to a crawl on the last percent.

A slick, fast phone with a great camera and battery that he will keep using, despite the GlueGate screen fault, delicate build and software bugs.

He singles out its wide-angle lens as one of his favourite things about the phone.

Mentioned only as the phone he switched from, with the Nokia feeling just as solid.

His number one and daily phone, outstanding on camera, battery, performance and charging, though the software look divides opinion.

Strong all-rounder with great stabilisation and an ultra wide lens, but its night detail falls behind the Pixel.

Lasted longest at 7 hours 44, the best battery he has seen on a mainline flagship, though not in a different league from the Note 9 or XS Max.

Impressed after a week as his main phone, especially by the battery life, fast charging and ultra wide camera, with a full review still to come.

Clear camera winner over the Note 9 thanks to its ultra wide lens, stabilisation, 3x zoom and night mode, though some features are limited to 1080p or 10 megapixels.

Fastest-charging phone he has tested, though it does not reach Huawei's 70% in 30 minutes claim in real use.

Excited by a feature-packed flagship with a distinctive design, strong camera and fast chip, though this is a sponsored early look without serious testing.

Based on leaks, he thinks it could be the smartphone of the year, with a strong chip, camera and battery, though nothing is confirmed.

His number one pick, which he expects to use as his daily phone thanks to the rumoured camera, display and AI chip.

Excited about the rumoured Mate 20 Pro, expecting a better screen-to-body ratio, a bigger battery, a stronger chip and an improved triple camera.
